Overview

Build the storage systems serious infrastructure depends on. If you’re an engineer who cares about what happens below the application layer — how data is written, moved, protected, and scaled — this is the kind of role that stands out.

DDN is trusted in some of the world’s most demanding data environments, and we’re hiring a Block Storage Engineer to help build and evolve storage systems where performance, resilience, and architecture quality matter every day.

This is not a generic software role. It is for engineers who want to work close to the metal, solve hard systems problems, and make a measurable impact in storage.

Job Description

At DDN, storage is not a side concern. It is core to the platform, the product, and the value we deliver.

You’ll work on block storage architecture, contribute in C/C++, and help shape systems that must perform under real-world scale and complexity. If you want deeper technical ownership, stronger engineering challenges, and work that will be respected by other serious infrastructure engineers, this role is built for that.

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and enhance block storage systems and core architecture
  • Build high-performance systems software using C and/or C++
  • Work across storage environments and protocols including SAN/NAS
  • Improve system performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability
  • Contribute to architectural decisions for core storage capabilities
  • Diagnose and solve complex storage issues at the systems level
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to deliver robust storage functionality for demanding production environments
  • Contribute to the evolution of modern storage platforms, including distributed block storage patterns where relevant

What we’re looking for

  • 5 to 20 years of professional experience
  • Strong hands-on experience in C and/or C++
  • Good experience with SAN/NAS
  • Clear depth in block storage architecture
  • Current or recent experience in storage-focused engineering roles
  • A strong systems mindset with comfort working on low-level, performance-sensitive components

Good to have

  • Experience with distributed block storage
  • Background in enterprise storage, infrastructure software, or systems engineering
  • Experience working on highly available, high-performance storage products

Why strong engineers join DDN

  • You get to work on real storage engineering, not just application-facing abstractions
  • The technical problems are meaningful, not cosmetic
  • Your work sits in a domain where engineering depth is valued
  • You can influence architecture, not just execute tickets
  • You’ll be part of a business where storage is mission-critical, not secondary

Who this role is for

  • Engineers who enjoy systems-level thinking and technical depth
  • Builders who want to work on architecture, performance, and reliability
  • Storage professionals who want their domain expertise to be central to their next move
  • People who are motivated by hard engineering problems and tangible technical ownership

Who this role is not for

  • Engineers whose experience is mostly generic backend development without clear storage depth
  • Candidates whose storage exposure was brief, outdated, or peripheral
  • Professionals looking for a mostly managerial or coordination-heavy role
  • Applicants who prefer broad application-layer work over deep infrastructure engineering

DDN

If your best work is in block storage, C/C++, SAN/NAS, and systems architecture, this is a chance to join a company where those skills are directly relevant and genuinely valued.

For the right engineer, this is not just another job. It is an opportunity to work on the kind of infrastructure that serious technical careers are built on.

Apply now - If you’re excited by deep storage engineering and want to work on high-impact systems in Pune, we’d love to hear from you.
