Job Description

The Role

We're seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineer specializing in Test Automation to help design, build, and ensure the quality of our data management platform through comprehensive automated testing strategies.

What You'll Bring to DDN

Technical Expertise:

  • 5+ years of software development experience with strong proficiency in Python for test automation
  • Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks (pytest, unittest, Robot Framework, or similar)
  • Experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and automated testing integration
  • Knowledge of API testing tools and methodologies (REST, GraphQL)
  • Familiarity with containerized testing environments and Docker
  • Understanding of distributed systems testing challenges and solutions
  • Good to have hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana.

Systems Knowledge:

  • Advanced Linux skills including networking, filesystems, and block storage
  • Experience with Kubernetes testing and validation
  • Working knowledge of containers, key/value databases, and timeseries data testing
  • Experience with platform deployment and testing tools (MAAS, Cobbler) is a plus

Collaboration & Process:

  • Experience working effectively with geographically distributed teams
  • Demonstrated results in innovative testing approaches and delivery
  • Strong communication skills for test planning and results reporting

What You've Achieved

Testing Excellence:

  • Proven track record developing comprehensive test automation suites for complex systems
  • Experience with performance testing, load testing, and scalability validation
  • Strong background in both functional and non-functional testing methodologies
  • Experience testing REST APIs, CLIs, and storage or computation resource management systems

Delivery & Leadership:

  • Demonstrated ability to own and deliver test automation features in fast-paced environments
  • Experience mentoring team members on testing best practices and automation strategies
  • Track record of implementing testing frameworks that improve development velocity
  • Experience working on developer tooling and testing infrastructure

Domain Knowledge:

  • Understanding of storage systems testing requirements and challenges
  • Experience with test data management and synthetic data generation
  • Knowledge of security testing practices for enterprise storage solutions

What You'll Be Doing

Test Strategy & Development:

  • Design and implement comprehensive test automation strategies for our Data Services and Software Defined Storage solutions
  • Develop and maintain automated test suites covering functional, integration, performance, and regression testing
  • Create innovative testing approaches that simplify validation of complex storage and data management scenarios

Collaboration & Process:

  • Work within the Scrum framework to participate in full product development lifecycle including test planning, automation development, execution, analysis, and maintenance
  • Collaborate closely with development teams to ensure testability is built into new features from the ground up
  • Contribute to code reviews with a focus on testability and quality assurance

Infrastructure & Tools:

  • Build and maintain test automation infrastructure and CI/CD integration
  • Develop testing tools and utilities that enhance team productivity
  • Ensure test environments accurately reflect production configurations and use cases

Quality Assurance:

  • Monitor and analyze test results to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
  • Participate in usability and design reviews from a testing perspective
  • Maintain high standards for test coverage and automation reliability
