    We are currently seeking an Engineering Lab Technician to work in the Engineering Department


    Job Description:

    The engineering lab technician will be responsible for maintenance and management of hardware in the DDN data center lab in Maryland. This role will frequently interact with R&D resources from various teams within DDN to insure lab hardware is installed and configured properly to successfully execute engineering activities that align with DDN business and team goals. This is a hands on role that will require the individual to be solely responsible for most tasks and therefore they must be a self-starter who can prioritize, plan and execute their deliverables and tasks in a timely fashion. This role is responsible for establishing processes and procedures for within the lab that guarantees a consistently clean and orderly lab in support of all functions. Specific job functions include but are not limited to:

    • Provide technical support to engineering teams in order to meet quality, cost, and on-time delivery goals
    • Storage subsystem setup and configuration with help and/or direction from engineering teams
    • Provide logistical support with shipping and receiving of electronic equipment
    • provide local IT support for the facility - local hands for IT staff like toner replacement, backup tape rotation etc.
    • Resolve lab hardware issues through monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of issues via root cause analysis and establishing corrective actions
    • Accept delivery, assemble, rack, deploy, install, configure, activate, and support any components for the Lab including but not limited to racks, servers, storage, cabling, supplies, backup, archival, and network equipment.
    • Verify that all systems (hardware and software) are fully patched, and updated before connection to the test lab network.
    • Provide software and application upgrades, patches, and fixes to the lab environment including hardware, software, OS, BIOS flashes, hot fixes, lab software amongst others. Upgrades shall be performed within windows approved by the engineering team to avoid unnecessary downtime. 
    • Performance of routine maintenance of lab hardware as required to keep hardware in an optimal state
    • Responsibility for management of lab processes, procedures and upkeep of lab appearance
    • Participate in continuous improvement activities related to engineering processes as applicable
    • Attend technical training as required to sustain all lab hardware and prevent lab security vulnerabilities
    • Ability to meet physical demands of role which includes working with hands, frequent standing/walking and ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted


    Requirements and Qualifications:

    • Associate’s Degree and/or equivalent experience
    • 2 to 4 years of related experience
    • Racking and configuring development and test systems
    • Ability to identify problems, interpret data and come up with solutions
    • Excellent understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems
    • Must have team-oriented attitude, accountability and ownership
    • Attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, ability to multitask
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and organizational skills 
    • Experience reading work instructions and performing tasks as per instructions
    • Ability to understand schematics, blueprints and diagrams
    • Previous knowledge/experience with storage system is a plus
    • Previous knowledge/experience with networking is a plus
