Job Description

DDN is seeking an Associate Systems Engineer to work with strategic DDN Academic customers.  This role will provide support for production storage solutions and through training and hands on experience grow into a position designing new solutions to help customers solve their most challenging research data problems.  DDN solutions never sit in isolation so the chosen candidate will learn about storage and file systems and will gain knowledge and experience with the technologies required to build the world’s fastest supercomputers.  Data management from creation to analysis to distribution and archive are at the heart of DDN solutions today.  If you like figuring out how things work and applying technology to solve new problems, joining DDN could be your gateway to a rewarding career in the era of the big data.

 

Responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to:

  • Develop a deep knowledge of the DDN solution portfolio.
  • Develop the ability to architect, install, support and debug DDN solutions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer environments, competitive products and services, and industry trends in HPC
  • Manage customer technical relationship
  • Present weekly status reports of activities to manager.
  • Ability to manage customer relationship post-sale issues.
  • Travel to customer sites when required.
  • Act as a trusted advisor for customers’ IT staff.

 

Qualifications for this role are:

  • Independent thinker and self-starter.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to take directions and see a project or task through to completion.
  • Team player who can work well with others or independently when the task requires.
  • Experience in Linux systems management and debugging including Redhat, Ubuntu or SUSE.
  • Scripting (Shell), C++, Java, Perl.
  • Bachelor’s Degree earned or pending or technical equivalent (5 years work experience) or higher.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 75% as required for customer projects.
  • Networking certification or experience with Ethernet, Infiniband or OmniPath is desirable.

Provides Reliable Information: Builds credibility in a resource role by remaining factual and timely in providing information; maintains his sources for quick access to time-sensitive information and to stay abreast of new developments; proactively educates customers or shares information as part of the service they deserve.

 

Makes One on One Sales Presentations: Communicates essential points in an informal and conversational manner; prefers to share information in a one-on-one or small group situation; varies style and language to ensure listener understanding and is attentive to closing the loop on communications; seeks feedback and responds appropriately to listener reactions; makes presentations that are unrehearsed and adapted to individual situations.

 

Delivers Added Value to Customers: Stays in touch with market trends, including environmental and competitive forces influencing the market, so that he can be seen as a valuable resource to important constituents internal or external to the organization; constantly seeks information that will be useful but is not readily available to colleagues; enjoys being sought for advice and instruction; spends the time to build a base of knowledge that ultimately helps others to be more effective.
